Miles Davis - Kind of Blue 50th Anniversary

Monday, March 2nd marks the 50th anniversary of the first day of recording the best selling jazz album of all time - Miles Davis' "Kind of Blue". Its influence on jazz, rock, and contemporary classical music has been enormous. Join me, DJ EJ, at 6pm on March 2nd for a look back at the creation of this singular work. The first hour of the show will feature album excerpts and impressions and memories from former bandmates and music historians on Miles Davis and the recording sessions. In the second hour, we'll hear alternate takes, live recordings, and bonus tracks from Legacy's 50th Anniversary 2-Disc edition of "Kind of Blue". Over the course of the show, I'll give away 10 copies of this 2-Disc edition to local listeners. Tune in to KXUA at 6pm on March 2nd for a celebration of "Kind of Blue".

Until then, click here to listen to shows featuring Sam Cooke, Fats Waller, Buddy Guy, Ashford & Simpson and more great musicians in the Joyride Media and Legacy Recordings Black History Month podcast series:

Some of you may be wondering about Gardner's Late Nite. "Where is my favorite DJ Gardner and zany co-host MC Man-Dog?! Well, the late night spot was cutting into my college grades. I know it is one of those excuses that everyone hates to hear. BUT... Never FEAR! I will return by the new year. Scouts Honor!

I have some recordings to tide you over until then. Just click on the links to download the tracks. All these tracks were produced by DJ Wolfenstein 3D.

Pirates and Commercials

I hope you all enjoy these strange recordings. And I will be back on the radio before you know it. I love you all! Thanks for all the support!

Good Evening and Welcome to GARDNER's LATE NITE

Ok... most of you missed the show! Well, I'm on Thursdays at 10pm. Here's the podcast!

"Jam Session" (1958)

This is the first half of an unaired pilot episode for a show called "Jam Session" guest starring the amazing Dave Brubeck . I really wish they had gone on to actually make this show, just letting jazz musicians jam for an hour is totally worth putting on TV. I guess American television was just too damn square. I really like how the host says his job is just to smoke, you can't get away with that on TV anymore. But the best part is at about 4:20 when Brubeck blows his own mind and his glasses fly off his face. Why can't television be more like this?

GARDNER'S LATE NITE MAKES ME HORNY!

If you have been missing the past few shows, you have missed so much. Meatwad made an appearance on the 14th. We had guests such as R-Magic, Harry Carey, Meatwad, DJ Wolfenstein (as always). We had callers, jokes, fights, porno, bad language, satan worshipers, et cetera.

Also, last night was my last show for a few weeks. DJ Heavy D will be doing the show for me while I am away in Scotland. I am going to try and prepare some special reports from over seas to be aired here in Fayetteville. So keep your radios on and your ears clean, because we're gonna funk 'em up.
