LIVE LIVE LIVE! from Africa

...well mostly. THE AFROSONIC TAXI sampled the concert scene on Friday, August 28. We started and ended at the Filmore in San Francisco with Ozomatli doing a funk rap cumbia. In between we heard the trance jazz of Orchestre National Barbes, Toureg bands from the Festival in the Desert, rocking Pulaar rhythms from Baaba Maal, makossa funk from Manu Dibango, and Afrobeat from Femi Kuti. All recorded live.
Of course there was so much more. To re-live the ride, click on the podcast link.

MODERN ROOTS MUSIC

On Friday, March 13 THE AFROSONIC TAXI sampled some of the modern roots of Africa. Traditional songs of the Songhai Empire electrified by Mamar Kassey of Niger. Yaba funk roots played on a two-string koliko by Captain Yaba of Bolgatanga, Ghana. Dazzling Tsapika music on homemade mandoliny (guitars) from Tulear, Madagascar. Creole sega played on indigenous percussion by Menwar of Mauritius. Oh, there was much much more….
